WHAT IS A “SECOND OPINION?”

You’ve had a biopsy and your doctor has told you the pathology diagnosis. The diagnosis will be a major factor in determining whether or not you will have further surgery or other course of treatment—or none at all. You want to be sure the diagnosis is accurate and that nothing was misinterpreted or possibly missed. How can you be sure? Who can help you? A pathologist at Orange County Pathology Medical Group, Inc, who has a special interest and expertise in your type of biopsy, will review your specimen slides and provide an independent consultation diagnostic report. Whether your concern involves Women’s Health, Men’s Health, skin diseases, blood and bone marrow diseases or other suspected conditions, Orange County Pathology Medical Group, Inc has a knowledgeable and experienced team of pathologists you can trust. A “second opinion” from Orange County Pathology Medical Group, Inc will give you and your treating physician the knowledge and confidence you need to make the right decisions regarding your healthcare.

WHO PAYS FOR A SECOND OPINION?

Many health plans have provisions for covering a pathology diagnosis second opinion. You will need to check with your health plan to find out what is required and how to obtain an authorization, if necessary. If you provide us with a copy of your insurance ID card (front and back), we will bill your insurance. However, you remain responsible for all charges not covered by your health plan, including unmet deductibles and co-pays. The fee is $266 per case for a pathology diagnosis second opinion.

HOW DO I REQUEST A PATHOLOGY DIAGNOSIS SECOND OPINION?

There is a simple, 2-step process to getting a second opinion:

  1. Print the Second Opinion Consult Form (Click Here To Download) and fill-in the top half.
  2. Forward the Second Opinion Consult Form to your treating physician, and ask your doctor to complete the bottom half of the form and forward it with your specimen slide(s) and insurance/billing information to:
